Love at 30,000 Feet: A Chance Encounter Leads to a Dream Wedding
Boarding a flight from Los Angeles to Boston in January 2018, Alex Zhou never expected that she would meet the love of her life in the skies. Sitting next to her on the plane was Eddie Lin Kay, a cute guy who caught her attention by helping a fellow passenger with their bag.
Despite spending most of the flight with her headphones on, watching her favorite TV show “Merlin,” Alex and Eddie struck up a conversation as the plane began its descent. Surprisingly, Alex, who usually shuts down strangers easily, found herself engaged in a lively conversation with Eddie as they made their way into the airport.
A week later, after a Google search on adding random people on Facebook, Alex took a leap of faith and sent Eddie a friend request. To her delight, Eddie responded the next day, and the two began chatting. This led to their first date in Boston, where Eddie took Alex to a Chinese restaurant because he knew she missed quality Chinese food from her hometown in Nanjing, China.
As their relationship blossomed, Alex, who had moved to the United States for her studies, and Eddie, a director of engineering at a health care company, found themselves falling deeply in love. They went on dates, met each other’s families, and eventually bought a house together in North Providence, R.I.
After a few bumps in the road, including a missed proposal opportunity and an allergic reaction on Valentine’s Day, Eddie finally popped the question during a romantic dinner at a Japanese barbecue restaurant in Boston. The couple then celebrated their love with a beautiful wedding ceremony at Hakone Estate and Gardens in Saratoga, Calif., surrounded by cherry blossoms and loved ones.
With a dream wedding and a love story that started at 30,000 feet, Alex and Eddie are proof that sometimes, the most unexpected encounters can lead to a lifetime of happiness.
