Ukrainian model Sawa Pontyjska has filed a legal complaint against the organisers of the Cannes Film Festival after she was allegedly manhandled by a security guard on the red carpet. The incident, which occurred on 21 May, has sparked outrage and garnered millions of views on social media.
Pontyjska, a presenter for FashionTV, was restrained by a security guard as she tried to enter the cinema with a legitimate ticket for the premiere of Marcello Mio. In a video of the incident, the guard can be seen putting both arms around Pontyjska, causing her to struggle and almost fall to the ground.
The model described the experience as a “bear hug” and said she felt scared during the altercation. She attempted to escape but was stopped by more security personnel and eventually escorted inside. Pontyjska claims she was not doing anything wrong and has since sought an apology from the festival organisers, to no avail.
The same security guard was also involved in heated exchanges with singer Kelly Rowland and South Korean actress Yoona, prompting further criticism. Cannes is known for its strict rules on the red carpet, but the treatment of guests by security personnel has raised concerns about the handling of attendees at the prestigious event.
Pontyjska’s legal complaint accuses the festival of physical assault and psychological damage, seeking 100,000 euros in damages. The incident has highlighted the need for better security protocols and respect for guests at high-profile events like the Cannes Film Festival.
