Gazans Struggle in Sweltering Heat as Temperatures Rise and Tents Provide Little Relief

As the scorching heat of summer descends upon the Gaza Strip, families who were forced to flee their homes during the Israeli bombardment are now facing a new set of challenges in their makeshift tents.

Maryam Arafat, along with her husband and three young children, initially sought refuge in a ramshackle tent in Deir al Balah to escape the cold winter nights. Now, as temperatures soar to 39 degrees Celsius (102 Fahrenheit), the same tent has become unbearable and suffocating.

With no relief in sight, Ms. Arafat and other displaced families are struggling to cope with the oppressive heat. The lack of water, shade, and proper shelter has made their living conditions even more unbearable.

Scott Anderson, the deputy director of UNRWA operations in Gaza, emphasized the urgent need to address the rising temperatures to prevent the spread of disease among the displaced population.

For families like Fadwa Abu Waqfa, the situation is beyond words. With limited access to water and no respite from the heat, they are left with no choice but to endure the harsh conditions.

As the summer progresses, the residents of Gaza are bracing themselves for even hotter days ahead. Despite the challenges they face, they remain resilient and hopeful for better days to come.

In the midst of this crisis, the international community is called upon to provide support and assistance to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the conflict in Gaza.
