Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has expressed his shock at the recent complaints about professional dancers on the popular BBC show. Allegations concerning former dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima have rocked the dance competition.
Pernice has denied any claims of abusive or threatening behavior, while Di Prima’s spokesman admitted to a mistake of kicking celebrity partner Zara McDermott during rehearsals. Revel Horwood, speaking on BBC Radio Wales, revealed that he learned about the allegations through the press and emphasized that the judges are not present during teaching sessions.
The BBC has taken action in response to the allegations, announcing that a member of the Strictly production staff will be present at all future rehearsals, along with two new dedicated welfare producers. Revel Horwood welcomed this decision, noting that chaperones and support systems are common in the theatre world.
The controversy surrounding Pernice and Di Prima has led to their exclusion from this year’s Strictly line-up. McDermott, who was partnered with Di Prima, has described her experiences during training as distressing. Di Prima’s spokesman acknowledged the regrettable incident and apologized for his actions.
The BBC has reiterated its commitment to addressing any inappropriate behavior and ensuring the well-being of all participants on the show. Revel Horwood emphasized the importance of providing support and resources for individuals experiencing difficulties, noting that it is a normal progression in the industry.
