The man wanted in connection with the murder of off-duty Chicago police officer Luis Huesca has been apprehended by authorities. Xavier Tate Jr., 22, was arrested for first-degree murder in Glendale Heights, Illinois, on Wednesday night.

Huesca, 30, was tragically shot and killed on April 21 in the Gage Park area as he was heading home from work. The suspect, Tate, was identified just five days after the incident, with video footage released to aid in his capture.

Tate, who was previously arrested for criminal trespass to a residence in March, was the subject of a massive manhunt involving Chicago police, the U.S. Marshals, and several law enforcement agencies. A $100,000 reward was offered for information leading to his arrest.

The community continues to mourn the loss of Officer Huesca, who was laid to rest on Monday. The Chicago Police Department is urging the public to keep the Huesca family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

The arrest of Xavier Tate Jr. brings a sense of closure to the investigation into the tragic death of Officer Huesca, but the impact of his loss will be felt for years to come.
