A shocking incident unfolded at a nursing home in Nebraska when a woman who was pronounced dead was later discovered to be alive by a funeral home employee. Constance Glantz, 74, of Lincoln, Neb., was declared dead at the Mulberry at Waverly nursing home in Waverly, Neb., only to be found breathing hours later.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office stated that Ms. Glantz was receiving hospice care when she was pronounced dead by nursing home staff. The funeral home, Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln, was called to transport her body, but an employee preparing her for burial noticed she was still alive. Emergency medical workers were called, and Ms. Glantz was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The authorities have not found any criminal intent by the nursing home, but an investigation is ongoing. This unusual case has left officials puzzled, with Chief Deputy Houchin stating, “I’ve been doing this 31 years, and nothing like this has ever gotten to this point before.”

While rare, cases of people being mistakenly declared dead have occurred in the past. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough medical examinations and procedures to prevent such errors from happening in the future.
