A horrific incident unfolded in New York City near a popular beach boardwalk in Brooklyn, as a woman was raped at knifepoint by a migrant, according to police and sources.
The New York City Police Department confirmed that the assault took place around 9 p.m. on Sunday night near Surf Avenue and West 16 Street in Coney Island. The victim, a 46-year-old female, was approached by two unidentified individuals who forced her to the ground at knifepoint. One of the individuals proceeded to rape her, while a 34-year-old male who tried to intervene was struck with an object by the second individual.
The female victim was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, while the male victim, identified as her boyfriend, refused medical attention. The suspects, identified as Daniel Bonilla Davon, 24, and Leovando Moreno, 37, both homeless individuals, were apprehended by the NYPD.
Davon-Bonilla, who is facing charges including first-degree rape and sexual abuse, is reported to be a migrant from Nicaragua. Moreno has been charged with second-degree assault in connection with the incident.
The assault occurred near the boardwalk at Coney Island, a popular tourist destination in Brooklyn. The area where the rape took place is close to a hotel housing asylum seekers, and Davon-Bonilla had previously been arrested in early April for a criminal sexual act, according to sources.
This disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can lurk in even the most seemingly safe and public spaces. The NYPD continues to investigate the case as the victims recover from the traumatic experience.
