A shocking incident in Nebraska has left authorities baffled after a woman who was initially pronounced dead at a nursing home was later found to be alive at a funeral home.
The 74-year-old woman, Constance Glantz, was declared dead by staff at a nursing home in Waverly, near Lincoln. However, two hours later, staff at a nearby funeral home noticed that she was still breathing and immediately performed CPR on her.
Chief Deputy Ben Houchin from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office described the case as “very unusual” during a press briefing. He mentioned that in his 31 years of experience, he had never encountered a situation like this before.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, but have not found any evidence of criminal intent by the nursing home. It was revealed that a coroner was not sent to the nursing home initially because Ms. Glantz had been in hospice care and her death was anticipated.
This bizarre incident is not the first of its kind. Similar cases have been reported in the past, where individuals were mistakenly pronounced dead only to be found alive later on.
Dr. Stephen Hughes, a senior lecturer in medicine, explained that such cases are rare but emphasized the importance of careful examination before declaring someone dead. He mentioned that certain drugs could slow down body processes, giving the false appearance of death.
The current condition of Ms. Glantz is unknown, but her family has been notified of the situation. The authorities have not disclosed the names of the nursing home or funeral home involved in the mishap.
As investigations continue, the community is left shocked and puzzled by this extraordinary turn of events.
