Celebrity Race Across the World has come to an end, and the winners have been revealed. BBC Radio 2 host Scott Mills and his husband Sam emerged victorious after traveling 12,500km from the Amazon to the Andes, reaching the final checkpoint at Osorno Volcano in Frutillar, Chile.
The episode showcasing their win was watched by an average audience of 3.7 million viewers, according to overnight viewing figures. Actor Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary Ellen Moriarty finished in second place, followed by TV presenter Jeff Brazier and his son Freddy, and model Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi in third and fourth place, respectively.
Scott and Sam described the experience as “exhilarating, inspiring, and exhausting.” They shared their journey on Radio 2, expressing their disbelief at being the first to reach the final checkpoint. Despite starting the last leg in third place, the couple made a strategic decision to take a different route, ultimately leading them to victory.
Reflecting on the emotional moment of realizing they had won, Scott Mills said, “When we were on the top of the volcano, we had a hug and a little cry. People were telling us repeatedly that we had won, but I still could not compute it. I could not get it in my head.”
The couple also shared how the experience has changed their perspective on travel and their relationship. Scott mentioned that the journey made their bond even stronger and inspired them to disconnect from the world more often.
Overall, Scott Mills described the experience as eye-opening, stating, “I thought I knew a lot about the world, but I didn’t know as much as I thought I did. It was exhilarating, inspiring, and exhausting.”
