Taylor Swift has made history as the first artist ever to sell more than $1 billion worth of tickets for a single tour. With her ongoing Eras Tour captivating fans worldwide, Swift’s upcoming shows at Wembley Stadium in London have sparked a frenzy among eager Swifties.
However, fans have been warned that they cannot gather outside the stadium to “Tay-gate” and soak up the atmosphere if they don’t have tickets. This practice, which has become popular at Swift’s shows, has been banned at Wembley Stadium due to security concerns.
The heightened security measures come in the wake of the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, and strict rules are in place for the Eras Tour. Fans are only allowed to bring one A4 size bag, with prohibited items including banners, umbrellas, glass or metal containers, iPads, laptops, aerosol sprays, and signs larger than a sheet of A4 paper.
Despite the security measures, Swift’s tour continues to break records. With five more shows at Wembley Stadium, Swift will equal Take That’s record of eight dates at the venue during their 2011 Progress tour. She will also surpass Michael Jackson as the solo artist with the most shows at Wembley in a single tour.
The Eras Tour, which is on track to make over $2 billion in ticket sales, has faced challenges, including a foiled suicide attack plot in Vienna. Three suspects were arrested for planning an attack using explosives and knives, leading to the cancellation of three concerts.
Fans attending the London shows can expect earlier start times and new support acts, including Paramore and other talented artists joining Swift on stage. Despite concerns about security, both the Met Police and venue officials have assured fans that appropriate measures are in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at the upcoming shows.
