Welsh actress Morfydd Clark sneaks Welsh word into Amazon’s The Rings of Power series

Welsh actress Morfydd Clark, known for her role as Galadriel in Amazon’s The Rings of Power series, managed to sneak a Welsh word into the show, much to the surprise of the showrunners.

During a scene in the first series, Clark’s character was seen shouting the command “cer” to her horse, which means “go” in Welsh. Showrunner Patrick McKay admitted that they didn’t notice the Welsh word at first, but praised Clark for slipping it in.

Clark, who grew up in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, is a Welsh speaker, just like her co-stars Owain Arthur and Trystan Gravelle. Arthur, who plays Durin IV, shared that speaking Welsh on set helped create a sense of home, especially when filming in New Zealand.

The showrunners, McKay and JD Payne, revealed that the second series of The Rings of Power, filmed around the UK, had a surprisingly Welsh influence. Payne described Wales, especially Snowdonia, as feeling like Middle Earth, with its mountains and forests resembling scenes from the show.

Fans can catch the second season of The Rings of Power on Prime Video starting on August 29th.
