In a month filled with classic films leaving Netflix, one standout is the 2000 movie “28 Days,” starring Sandra Bullock. Before her Oscar-winning performance in “The Blind Side,” Bullock showcased her acting range in this serio-comic drama directed by Betty Thomas and written by Susannah Grant.
Bullock plays a fast-living New York writer whose functional alcoholism is catching up to her. After a DUI, she checks into a rehabilitation facility to avoid jail time. Similar to Michael Keaton’s role in “Clean and Sober,” Bullock’s performance in “28 Days” allows her to flex her acting chops while maintaining her charm and charisma.
Steve Buscemi provides able support as the counselor who guides Bullock’s character through the ups and downs of rehab. The film is a scrappy and alive portrayal of addiction and recovery, making it a must-watch before it leaves the streaming platform.
Don’t miss out on streaming “28 Days” before it disappears from Netflix.
