Virginia Woman Wanted for Triple Homicide Captured in New York After High-Speed Police Chase

A Virginia woman wanted for the triple homicide of three of her roommates was captured in New York on Thursday after a high-speed police chase, according to authorities.

Alyssa Jane Venable, 23, had been on the run following the deaths of two men and a woman at their Spotsylvania County home on Tuesday. The victims were found with blunt-force trauma injuries, with the crimes described as “heinous” by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

Venable was apprehended on I-86 in Steuben County by the U.S. Marshals Service and New York State Police after she refused to stop for law enforcement. Police say she was driving a gray 2009 Honda Civic and led officers on a chase reaching speeds of 100 mph before being stopped by a tire deflation device.

The victims, identified as Robert John McGuire, 77, Gregory Scott Powell, 60, and Carol Anne Reese, 65, were discovered after a welfare check was requested at their home on White Street Court. Venable now faces three second-degree murder charges and the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Neighbors of the victims described them as quiet individuals who kept to themselves. They believed Venable had only recently moved into the home.

New York State Police are processing a fugitive warrant for Venable and making extradition arrangements back to Virginia. It is unclear at this time what the relationship between Venable and the victims may have been.

Venable had previously been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery last month, but it is not yet known if that incident is connected to the triple homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
