White House national security communications adviser John Kirby expressed optimism for a potential six-week peace deal with Hamas during an interview on ABC’s “This Week.” Kirby stated that Israel has agreed not to launch a campaign in the final Hamas stronghold of Rafah until the United States has had the opportunity to discuss concerns with them.

Hamas is currently reviewing a new Israeli proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza, as Egypt works to broker a deal to end the ongoing conflict and prevent an Israeli ground offensive in Rafah. Negotiations have focused on a six-week cease-fire and the release of hostages in exchange for the freedom of Palestinian prisoners.

Kirby also addressed the construction of an offshore pier by the U.S. military to deliver aid to Gaza, stating that the pier is expected to be operational in two to three weeks. He emphasized the importance of peaceful protests amid anti-Israel demonstrations at American college campuses, condemning antisemitism and hate speech.

The potential for a temporary cease-fire and ongoing negotiations offer hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Gaza. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
