An Israeli strike on Rafah killed at least 45 people
In a tragic incident, an Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza city of Rafah resulted in the deaths of at least 45 displaced Palestinians. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the deaths as a “tragic accident” and accused Hamas of using civilians as shields.
The Israeli military claimed that the strike targeted a Hamas compound and killed two Hamas officials. However, an initial investigation suggested that the strike may have ignited a flammable substance unexpectedly, leading to the high number of casualties.
The Gaza Health Ministry reported that among the 45 people killed, 23 were women, children, and older individuals, with 249 others wounded. Witnesses described a horrifying scene of burn victims and tents engulfed in flames.
The airstrike came shortly after the International Court of Justice issued a ruling calling for an end to Israel’s offensive in Rafah. The incident has sparked outrage internationally, with French President Emmanuel Macron condemning the attack and calling for an immediate halt to such operations.
The flow of aid into Gaza has significantly decreased in recent months, raising concerns about widespread starvation in the region. Humanitarian officials are urging for urgent action to address the escalating crisis.
As the situation in Gaza remains dire, the international community is closely monitoring developments and calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
