Former President Donald J. Trump made baseless claims about President Biden smuggling violent anti-American forces across the border during rallies in North Carolina and Virginia over the weekend. Trump, who faces multiple criminal trials, asserted without evidence that Biden’s border policy was a conspiracy to overthrow the United States.
Trump has previously suggested, also without evidence, that Democrats are encouraging migrants to cross the border illegally to register them to vote. He continued to push this narrative at his rallies, framing the upcoming election as a choice between allowing foreign armies to stay in the country or sending them back home.
Despite Trump’s claims, there is no evidence to support the idea that Biden has trafficked migrants across the border or that Democrats are encouraging illegal crossings for voter registration purposes. Trump also repeated his unfounded claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election at the rallies.
The border crisis has been a focal point for Republicans, who accuse Biden of being negligent on the issue. Democrats, on the other hand, point to a surge in migration worldwide and blame Republicans for blocking efforts to address the issue.
Throughout his campaign, Trump has ramped up warnings about threats to traditional American values, using war-like language to describe the border crisis as an invasion. He plans to implement extreme anti-immigration policies if elected in 2025, including the largest domestic deportation operation in U.S. history.
Supporters at the rallies resonated with Trump’s claims about the border, with one retired worker from North Carolina stating, “The Biden administration, they don’t care about us.” Trump’s rhetoric continues to stoke fear and division among his base as he prepares for potential future political endeavors.
