Title: New Poll Shows President Biden Trailing Behind Trump Amid Doubts About Leadership

A recent poll conducted by The New York Times and Siena College has revealed that President Biden is facing challenges within his own party and dissatisfaction among voters, leading to him trailing behind Donald J. Trump as the general-election contest approaches.

The poll, which surveyed registered voters, showed that only 43 percent support Mr. Biden, while 48 percent support Mr. Trump. This gap highlights the doubts about Mr. Biden’s leadership and the direction of the nation.

Key findings from the poll include the fact that only one in four voters believe the country is moving in the right direction, with more voters feeling that Mr. Biden’s policies have personally hurt them rather than helped them. Additionally, a majority of voters view the economy as being in poor condition.

The poll also revealed weaknesses within the Democratic coalition, with divisions among women, Black, and Latino voters. Mr. Trump has been able to unify his party more effectively, even amidst an ongoing primary contest.

Despite marching through the early nominating states with minimal opposition, Mr. Biden is facing division within the Democratic party about his leadership. The poll showed that as many Democratic primary voters believe he should not be the nominee in 2024 as those who believe he should be, with stronger opposition among younger voters.

Mr. Trump’s ability to consolidate the Republican base has given him an edge in the poll, with 97 percent of his past supporters sticking with him and very few switching to support Mr. Biden. In contrast, Mr. Biden is only winning 83 percent of his 2020 voters, with 10 percent now backing Mr. Trump.

The poll also highlighted the dissatisfaction among voters with both candidates, with Mr. Trump having a weak 44 percent favorable rating and Mr. Biden faring even worse at 38 percent. However, among voters who disapprove of both candidates, Mr. Biden leads Mr. Trump.

Overall, the poll paints a challenging picture for Mr. Biden as he faces doubts about his leadership and struggles to gain support among key voter groups. The upcoming general-election contest promises to be a closely watched and highly contested race.
