The battle for Black voters’ support in the upcoming election is heating up, with South Carolina GOP Senator Tim Scott pushing back against Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson’s skepticism of former President Donald Trump’s popularity among African Americans.
During a press conference, Mayor Johnson dismissed the idea that Republicans are gaining ground with Black voters, stating, “I don’t buy it.” He also questioned Scott’s ability to sway Black voters towards Trump, saying he doesn’t think Scott has “the juice” to convince them.
In response, Scott confidently asserted that on November 5th, Black voters will show their support for Trump. He emphasized the importance of marketing the Republican message effectively to the Black community, expressing his belief that Trump could see record turnout from African-American voters.
Despite acknowledging the challenges of reaching Black women, whom he described as loyal Democratic voters, Scott remained optimistic about appealing to Black men. He referred to them as “gettable” and emphasized the potential for significant turnout if the message is delivered sincerely and passionately.
Recent polls have shown a decline in support for President Joe Biden among Black voters in swing states, with Trump gaining ground since the last election. While Biden still leads Trump among Black voters, the gap has narrowed significantly.
As the election approaches, the battle for Black voters’ support continues to intensify, with both parties vying for their allegiance. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
