A Night of Fashion and Culture at Mouki Mou Store in Athens

Guests were in for a treat when they arrived at the Mouki Mou store in Athens on the last weekend in May. The founder, Maria Lemos, welcomed them with cool glasses of Greek rosé before they delved into the concrete-clad boutique in the city’s historic center, Plaka. Known for curating under-the-radar clothing and homeware brands that focus on craftsmanship and a wabi-sabi approach, Lemos had a special event planned for the evening.

The spotlight was on Dosa, a label founded by American-based Korean designer Christina Kim in 1983. The brand is renowned for its roomy clothes in natural, hand-woven fabrics inspired by workwear from around the world. To complement Kim’s latest collection, Lemos commissioned her to design an art installation titled “Shades of White / Whisper of Gold.” The delicate curtain of gold leaves, created in collaboration with the Oaxacan paper-making co-op El Taller Arte Papel, added a touch of elegance to the evening.

As guests made their way to the U-shaped roof terrace, they were surrounded by lush greenery and the stunning view of the Acropolis. The new Dosa collection, featuring gauzy kaftan dresses, camisoles, pants, and shawls in creamy hues with orange and golden accents, was on display. The Athens-based company Ancient Greek Sandals also showcased shoes with gold leaf motifs, while London-based designer Pippa Small presented 18-karat gold jewelry with roughly hewn crystals.

The attendees, including friends and collaborators of Lemos from around the world, enjoyed a feast prepared by the Athenian catering company Dipnosofistirion. Classic Greek dishes like fennel and phyllo pies, fried zucchini flowers stuffed with rice, and miniature dolmades were served alongside modern treats like poppy seed madeleines and candied pistachios.

Throughout the evening, guests were serenaded by musicians playing Athenian and Ionian kantades, adding to the ambiance of the event. Conversations flowed, with guests discussing their love for Dosa’s craftsmanship and Athens’s evolving cultural scene.

As the night came to a close, Lemos shared a tip for hosting: dress simply and elegantly. She emphasized the importance of being comfortable and ready to attend to guests’ needs, rather than seeking attention for oneself.

Overall, the evening at Mouki Mou store was a celebration of fashion, culture, and hospitality, bringing together a diverse group of creatives in the heart of Athens.
