This Morning presenter Cat Deeley has issued an apology after making a controversial joke about having a seizure on Monday’s show.
During a segment where she began dancing, co-host Ben Shephard asked if she was alright, to which Deeley responded, “I’m fine, I’m just having a seizure.”
The comment drew criticism from viewers and epilepsy charities, with the Epilepsy Society and Young Epilepsy both expressing disappointment and calling for better education on the condition.
In response, Deeley apologized at the start of Tuesday’s show, stating that her comment was not meant to cause any upset and expressing regret for any offense caused. Shephard also clarified that it was never their intention to make light of seizures.
Deeley and Shephard took over as permanent hosts of This Morning following the departure of Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby in 2024. Schofield left amid reports of a rift with Willoughby, while Willoughby cited personal reasons for her departure.
Epilepsy is a condition that affects the brain, causing repeated seizures due to sudden bursts of intense electrical activity. It can start at any age and may be a life-long condition for some individuals.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of sensitivity and awareness when discussing medical conditions on a public platform.
