The wedding of Alexis Major and Karim Butler was not your typical affair. From the emotional ceremony to the star-studded after-party, the entire event was a celebration of love, success, and their cannabis company, Gumbo.
The couple, who met at a jewelry store in New York City, founded Gumbo as a way to provide an alternative pain management option for their friends in the music and major league sports industries who were struggling with opioid addiction. What started as a small venture quickly grew into a global business, with Mr. Butler as the CEO and Ms. Major as the CFO.
Their wedding, held at Park Château Estate and Gardens in East Brunswick, N.J., was a lavish affair attended by 320 guests, including musical artists Davido, Quavo, and Fat Joe. The reception turned into a mini music festival, with impromptu performances by the artists and a surprise serenade by Ronald Isley of the Isley Brothers.
But beyond the glitz and glamour, the wedding was a testament to the couple’s journey together. From their first date at Lure Fishbar in SoHo to their spiritual journey and conversion to Islam, Ms. Major and Mr. Butler have been through it all.
As the night came to a close, guests left the after-party with gift bags filled with Gumbo products, symbolizing the couple’s commitment to their community and the success of their love story.
In the words of Mr. Butler, “I hope everybody enjoyed the wedding of the century.” And indeed, it was a celebration to remember.
