Mi Primer Bitcoin: Empowering Salvadorans Through Bitcoin Education
In August 2021, John Dennehy founded Mi Primer Bitcoin, a non-profit organization based in El Salvador with a mission to empower individuals through Bitcoin education. With approximately 0.5 BTC in its treasury and a team of 21 employees, Mi Primer Bitcoin aims to help everyday Salvadorans reclaim agency in their lives by understanding and utilizing Bitcoin technology.
Dennehy’s inspiration for starting Mi Primer Bitcoin stemmed from his observations during the COVID lockdowns, where he noticed a sense of powerlessness among people. Believing that education is key to helping individuals take control of their lives, Dennehy set out to create a platform that would provide comprehensive Bitcoin education to the masses.
After initial attempts in Ecuador, Dennehy shifted his focus to El Salvador following President Nayib Bukele’s announcement that Bitcoin would become legal tender in the country. Recognizing the historic opportunity, Dennehy relocated to El Salvador to contribute to the success of this groundbreaking initiative.
Despite facing challenges in establishing independence and impartiality, Mi Primer Bitcoin has made significant strides in its educational efforts. The organization offers a free curriculum, known as the “Bitcoin Diploma” program, and has expanded its reach globally with “Light Nodes” in 22 countries.
By staying true to its mission of decentralization and empowerment, Mi Primer Bitcoin continues to inspire and educate individuals worldwide. Dennehy envisions a future where Bitcoin education leads to greater individual control and incentivizes people to build and create for themselves.
As Mi Primer Bitcoin grows rapidly, Dennehy remains committed to upholding the organization’s values and empowering others to take charge of their financial futures. Through Bitcoin education, Mi Primer Bitcoin is paving the way for a more empowered and self-reliant society.
