Alfie Watts and Owen Wood, two school mates from St Albans, have made history as the youngest winners of the Bafta-winning BBC One show, Race Across the World. The duo, who beat out competitors in a race across three continents, have already planned how they will spend their share of the £20,000 prize fund.
Mr. Watts, a referee for the Hertfordshire Football Association, plans to use his winnings to deliver football kits to underprivileged communities in Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, Mr. Wood, a trainee pilot, intends to return to South East Asia in September to revisit Thailand and Vietnam.
The lifelong friends attribute their success to their strong friendship, which they believe gave them an advantage over other competitors. Despite having different priorities during the race, they supported each other and ultimately came out of the experience even closer.
The duo’s win has not only made them the youngest winners of the show but has also solidified their bond as best friends. As they look towards the future, they plan to continue their adventures and make the most of their prize money.
