The U.S. Coast Guard has made a major drug bust, unloading nearly 34,000 pounds of confiscated cocaine in San Diego, California. The drugs, worth an estimated $468 million, were seized from eight suspected drug smuggling vessels off the coast of Mexico and Central and South America by the Coast Guard Cutter Munro.
Captain Rula Deisher of the Coast Guard Cutter Munro praised his crew for their dedication and hard work in making the seizure possible. This latest bust is the largest since the Coast Guard seized 33,200 pounds of cocaine and 12,400 pounds of marijuana in October.
Vice Adm. Kevin Lunday emphasized the importance of these drug interdiction efforts for national security, highlighting the collaboration between various federal law enforcement and defense agencies. American drug interdiction efforts involve a strong interagency team that works closely with allies and international partners to prevent dangerous and illegal drugs from entering the United States.
This significant seizure underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling and keep the country safe. The Coast Guard’s successful operation serves as a reminder of the dedication and commitment of those working to protect the nation from the threat of illicit drugs.
