NHRA Legend John Force Remains in ICU After Horrific Crash
John Force, the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) great, is currently in the intensive care unit following a terrifying crash at the Virginia Nationals on Sunday. The incident occurred after a catastrophic engine failure led to his Funny Car exploding and crashing into two separate guard walls.
According to a statement released by John Force Racing, attending doctors are taking their time in assessing the extent of Force’s injuries due to the intensity of the impact. His wife and four daughters have joined him at the hospital, and updates on his condition will be provided by medical staff as his evaluation progresses.
Force, a 157-time tour winner and Hall of Fame owner and driver, was conscious and alert immediately after the wreck. The 75-year-old was in his Funny Car when his engine exploded, causing him to veer across the track and collide with the walls.
Described as having “catastrophic engine failure” after reaching a speed of 302 mph, Force’s team is awaiting further evaluation before providing a treatment and recovery timetable.
