Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris for President Following Debate Against Trump

Moments after the conclusion of the presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, pop star Taylor Swift took to Instagram to announce her endorsement of Harris for president in the 2024 election.

In her post, Swift expressed her support for Harris, citing her as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” who fights for the rights and causes that Swift believes need a champion. The singer also praised Harris’s choice of vice-presidential candidate, Tim Walz, for his advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body.

Swift’s endorsement comes in response to comments made by Trump’s vice-presidential candidate JD Vance, who referred to several prominent Democrats, including Harris, as “childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives.” Swift signed her post with the moniker “Childless Cat Lady” in a nod to Vance’s remarks.

The singer also addressed the issue of misinformation, revealing that she was prompted to share her voting decision publicly after an AI-generated image of her falsely endorsing Trump surfaced online. Swift emphasized the importance of transparency in the face of misinformation.

Swift joins a list of celebrities endorsing Harris, including John Legend, Olivia Rodrigo, George Clooney, and Spike Lee. On the other side, Hulk Hogan, Amber Rose, and Elon Musk have endorsed Trump.

This is not the first time Swift has publicly supported a Democratic nominee in opposition to Trump. In the lead-up to the 2020 election, she endorsed President Joe Biden and Harris as his running mate. Swift has been a vocal critic of Trump, particularly during the protests following the murder of George Floyd.

With over 283 million followers on Instagram, Swift’s endorsement of Harris quickly garnered over two million likes within half an hour of posting. She encouraged first-time voters to register and shared a link for more voting information, urging her followers to do their own research and make their own choices.

As the 2024 election approaches, Swift’s endorsement adds another high-profile voice to the conversation surrounding the presidential race.
