Taylor Swift has opened up about the cancellation of her Vienna tour dates due to an attack threat, revealing that the experience filled her with “a new sense of fear.” In a heartfelt post on Instagram, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter expressed her guilt over the cancelled shows, as many fans had planned on travelling to see her perform.
The three concerts in the Austrian capital were called off earlier in August after three people were arrested for allegedly planning attacks inspired by the Islamic State group. Swift, who recently wrapped up the European leg of her Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium in London, shared her gratitude towards the authorities for prioritizing the safety of concert-goers.
“I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who banded together,” Swift wrote on Instagram. She emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of her fans and praised the efforts of her team, stadium staff, and British authorities in making sure her London shows went on without a hitch.
Despite the disappointment of the Vienna cancellations, Swift chose to remain silent on the matter until now to avoid potentially provoking any threats towards her fans. She explained, “My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.”
Swift’s resilience and dedication to her fans were evident as she broke a record for any solo singer by performing eight concerts at Wembley this summer, surpassing Michael Jackson’s previous record set in 1988. Fans can look forward to her next show as part of The Eras Tour scheduled for 18 October in Miami, Florida.
