Title: U.S. Stocks Drift Around Record Levels as Investors Await Fed Rate Cuts

In a day of quiet trading on Wall Street, U.S. stocks are hovering around their record levels as investors anticipate potential interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve later this year.

The S&P 500 was up 0.2% in midday trading, on track to surpass its previous record set just last week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also saw a 0.2% increase, with the Nasdaq composite up 0.1% after reaching its latest all-time high.

The market has been driven to new highs by expectations of Fed rate cuts to combat inflation, as well as strong earnings reports from major U.S. companies. Zoom Video Communications and Lam Research were among the companies that delivered better-than-expected profits, boosting investor confidence.

However, not all companies fared well in the market. Palo Alto Networks saw a 4% drop despite a positive profit report, while Trump Media & Technology Group, the company behind Donald Trump’s Truth Social network, sank 8.5% after reporting a net loss in its first quarterly report as a publicly traded company.

The market is also being influenced by high interest rates, which have led to increased costs for mortgages, credit cards, and other payments. The Federal Reserve has been maintaining its main interest rate at a high level to combat inflation, but there are hopes that a “soft landing” for the economy is possible with potential rate cuts.

Investors are closely watching upcoming profit reports from companies like Nvidia, Target, and Ross Stores to gauge the strength of U.S. household spending amid inflationary pressures. Stock markets abroad, particularly in Europe and Asia, have seen declines as well.

Overall, the market remains cautiously optimistic as investors await further economic data and potential Fed actions in the coming months.
