Sotheby’s to Auction Rare Bored Ape NFTs, Including Bankrupt Hedge Fund’s Ape
Sotheby’s, the prestigious auction house, is set to host an auction on June 18 featuring a collection of Ethereum-based Bored Ape non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The highlight of the auction is Ape #8552 from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection, known for its unique features such as a leather biker vest and a sushi chef headband.
What makes Ape #8552 even more intriguing is its previous owner, the now-bankrupt Three Arrows Capital (3AC), a leading crypto hedge fund that collapsed during the market downturn of 2022.
In addition to Ape #8552, the auction will also include two gold-furred NFTs from the Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) collection and an NFT from the Bored Ape Kennel Club (BAKC), all originating from Yuga Labs.
The floor price for the cheapest Bored Ape at the auction is around $47,000, but gold-furred Apes are much rarer, with only 46 out of 10,000 minted. The last gold-furred Ape sold for nearly $940,000, indicating the high value placed on these unique NFTs.
This auction is expected to draw significant interest from NFT collectors, given the rarity and value of the pieces from the BAYC and related collections. Sotheby’s has a track record of successful auctions involving assets previously owned by 3AC, further adding to the anticipation surrounding this event.
With valuable and rare NFTs up for grabs, this auction is sure to be a must-attend event for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
