“Sorority rush week takes TikTok by storm, turning college recruitment into online phenomenon”
Sorority rush week is back on college campuses across the United States — and on TikTok. The online phenomenon known as “RushTok” has taken the popular social media platform by storm, drawing billions of views and likes as users get a glimpse inside the rush process at large U.S. colleges and universities.
One of the standout influencers in this year’s RushTok season is Kylan Darnell, a junior at the University of Alabama who has been dubbed the “queen of RushTok.” Darnell’s videos have garnered a massive following, allowing her to earn enough money to put her through four years of school.
“I’m very grateful. I’m very appreciative. … I’m excited to graduate and not be in debt from student loans,” Darnell told Fox News Digital in an interview. “It’s definitely very freeing, very relieving, and I’m just very grateful for anybody that takes the time to go on my page and follow or watch a video or leave a comment. It’s just, wow. I’m just very appreciative.”
RushTok has become a favorite time of year for many college students, with University of Alabama sorority members and recruits drawing the masses to “Bama RushTok” as the top recruitment school in the country. The videos showcase coordinated dances, dress-up themes, outfit reveals, and tips for getting into one’s top sorority house.
Some of the craziest RushTok trends of the 2024-2025 school year include University of Oklahoma’s blue costumes, grandma costumes, sorority rap songs, designer clothing and room decor, and the use of professional recruitment consultants.
While the RushTok videos have garnered praise and billions of views, they have also faced judgment. Darnell encourages users to be kind and respectful, noting that sorority members and recruits are young individuals trying to make the most of their college experiences.
As the RushTok trend continues to grow, it provides a unique look into the world of college recruitment and Greek Life, captivating audiences on TikTok and beyond.
