Phoenix Mercury guard Sophie Cunningham made headlines once again with her pregame outfit before the team’s matchup against the New York Liberty on Monday. The Mercury shared a slo-mo video of Cunningham entering the Footprint Arena locker room with a caption straight out of “Love Island.”
Despite Cunningham’s eye-catching entrance, the Mercury fell to the Liberty 84-70, continuing their up-and-down performance since returning from the Olympic break. Cunningham contributed three points in the game.
The former Missouri standout is averaging 7.7 points per game in 31 appearances for Phoenix, shooting 42% from the floor and 37% from 3-point range. The Mercury are currently in sixth place in the WNBA standings, on track to make the playoffs with nine games left in the regular season.
