See what happened to Sunil Gavaskar after watching “Movie 83”
Members of Kapil Dev's World Cup-winning cricket squad were recalled at the 83 movie launch in Mumbai on Wednesday evening

Members of Kapil Dev’s World Cup-winning cricket squad were recalled at the 83 movie launch in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. A special screening of the film was held, with players from India’s 1983 World Cup-winning squad in attendance. They rewound every magical moment that filmmaker Kabir Khan had portrayed on film.
He was blown away, as the legendary Sunil Gavaskar put it. I saw the movie for the first time at the premiere last night and was blown away by it. It’s simply brilliant, and the way every actor has got the mannerisms, the walk, the look, the style of every player was unbelievably uncanny. Full marks to Kabir Khan and his team for their efforts, “the batting legend told The Indian Express.
In the film, Tahir Bhasin plays Gavaskar, and Ranveer Singh plays skipper Kapil Dev.
The 1983 World Cup success was Gavaskar’s most memorable moment in life, and the film has allowed him to relive it. “It made me relive that glorious campaign, culminating in the most memorable moment of my life when Kaps received the trophy and lifted it high over his head,” the former India captain added.
He also mentioned India’s international cup wins under MS Dhoni, wishing the squad well in the next two world tournaments: the T20 World Cup next year and the 50-over World Cup in 2023.
Sunil Gavaskar called the #1983 World Cup triumph the most memorable moment of his life and the movie has allowed him to rekindle that.

“MSD and his boys gave similarly emotional moments in 2007, 2011 and 2013 (Champions Trophy), and God willing, I am looking forward to 2022 and 2023 for that incredible high that every Indian gets when the country is the Champion of the World,” Gavaskar added.
India’s emergence as a worldwide cricket force began with the 1983 World Cup victory. Under Gavaskar’s guidance, they won the World Championship of Cricket in Australia two years later.
“’83” was a big project for Khan, and he discussed the obstacles in a recent interview with Indianexpress.com.
“There were numerous challenges. It’s a true story of what happened, but it’s amazing how each character contributed to the journey. Everyone had a place in the fun. I had to be sure about getting all the details right, about recreating an event that’s so iconic and deeply entrenched in the collective memory of Indians, “the filmmaker had stated.
Kapil’s Friends, on the other hand, reconnected over the film’s debut. It will be released in theatres on Friday for fans.
