Russia Launches Massive Attack on Ukraine, Killing Three and Damaging Infrastructure
In a devastating turn of events, at least three people have been killed after Russia launched a massive attack across Ukraine, seriously damaging power and water supplies. Explosions rang out in several cities, including Kyiv, as more than half of the country’s regions came under attack.
Authorities in Zaporizhzhia, Lutsk, and the central Dnipropetrovsk region each reported casualties in the massive air raid, which featured missiles and drones. Ukraine’s prime minister stated that Russia had been targeting their energy infrastructure, a long-term tactic of Moscow’s forces.
The barrage of drone and missile attacks began overnight on Monday and continued well into the morning, with explosions heard in numerous cities from west to east. People were urged to seek shelter as the entire country came under an air raid alert.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal reported that 15 regions were targeted, with the attacks aimed at energy infrastructure using weapons such as drones, cruise missiles, and supersonic missiles. The attacks have caused serious damage to infrastructure, with power outages reported in many cities, including Kyiv, and water supplies disrupted.
Emergency blackouts have been imposed, and energy company DTEK is working to restore electricity supplies across the country. Russia has been targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure since the start of its full-scale invasion in February 2022, causing frequent blackouts.
In a recent development, Ukraine launched a surprise offensive into Kursk in Russia, attempting to draw troops away from the eastern front line. However, experts say this effort has not been successful, with Moscow’s forces remaining engaged in Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff called on Ukraine’s allies to give permission to launch long-range attacks on Russia with Western-supplied weapons. The situation remains tense as both countries continue to engage in conflict, with casualties and damage on both sides.
