Rs 1 crore or more packages are being made to IITs

More worldwide offers, including packages of Rs 1 crore or more, are being made to IITs than ever before.

Just six days into this year’s campus recruitment campaign, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are proving to be a record-breaking placement season across several metrics – from the number of Rs 1 crore-plus packages and total job offers received by students so far, to worldwide postings.

So far this year, the number of crore-plus packages across four IITs: Kanpur, Roorkee, Kharagpur, and Varanasi (BHU) has surpassed 80, significantly exceeding the cumulative tally across all IITs in prior years, according to placement cell officials.
When compared to the previous year, when Covid-19 took a toll on worldwide postings, international offers have also increased dramatically. Six IITs — Kanpur, Madras, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Guwahati, and BHU – have already received more than 200 overseas offers this year, significantly more than last year.

IIT Madras has increased its international offers by 181 percent to 45 from 16 last year, IIT Guwahati has increased its offers by 366 percent to 28 from six last year, and IIT Kanpur has increased its offers by 147 percent to 47 from 19 last year. There are 35 overseas offers at IIT-BHU this year, compared to none last year. More than 75 percent of IIT-BHU students who applied for campus placement have already been hired.

“This year, almost all industries are recruiting,” said Vinay Sharma, IIT Roorkee’s professor-in-charge of training and placement. “Demand for talent is increasing worldwide, as evidenced by the vast number of proposals received in such a short period of time. In just 84 hours, we surpassed the 1,000 milestones.”

IIT Kharagpur has received over 1,300 offers, while IIT Guwahati has received over 625. Until Day 4, IIT Madras had 1,208 offers, including 231 pre-placement offers (PPOs).
As previously reported by ET, after a nearly six-year sabbatical, Rs 2 crore plus packages made a comeback this placement season, with the best overseas offer across IITs exceeding the Rs 2 crore barrier.
