Georgia’s Election Day on Tuesday is shaping up to be a heated affair, with key races across the state drawing attention from voters and political analysts alike. From a contentious state Supreme Court race to a five-way GOP primary for a congressional seat, there is no shortage of drama in the Peach State.
In the state Supreme Court race, incumbent Justice Andrew Pinson is facing off against Democratic former congressman John Barrow in a nonpartisan general election. The race has garnered attention for its focus on issues like abortion and judicial ethics, with both candidates making their case to voters.
Meanwhile, in the 3rd Congressional District, five Republicans are vying for their party’s nomination to succeed outgoing U.S. Rep. Drew Ferguson. Former President Donald Trump has endorsed his former aide Brian Jack, giving him a fundraising lead in a district that leans strongly Republican.
In the 13th Congressional District, Democratic incumbent David Scott is facing six challengers as he seeks a 12th term. The district has been significantly reconfigured in a new map, leading to a crowded field of candidates vying for the nomination.
And in the 6th Congressional District, Democratic incumbent Lucy McBath is running in a new district for the second time in two years. McBath, who has made gun control and reducing gun violence her primary focus, is facing primary opposition from fellow Democrats who say they can better represent the district.
With races across the state for congressional and state legislative seats, as well as local offices like sheriffs and district attorneys, Georgia’s Election Day is sure to be one to watch. And with runoffs scheduled for June 18 in races where candidates don’t win a majority, the drama is far from over.
