Reports: Marlins Trade Two-Time Reigning Batting Champion Luis Arraez

The Miami Marlins’ tank seems to be on, despite it only being mid-May. After a surprising postseason appearance last year, the Fish have struggled this season, losing 24 of their first 33 games. The latest blow came when Luis Arraez was traded to the San Diego Padres just minutes before he was set to lead off against the Oakland Athletics on Friday.

Arraez, who led the MLB with a .354 batting average last season, was a key player for the Marlins. The Padres reportedly traded four prospects to acquire the back-to-back batting champion. Arraez’s impressive performance last season had him on track to potentially hit .400, a feat not accomplished since Ted Williams in 1941.

The Padres already boast a strong infield with players like Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr., who had to move to the outfield due to the abundance of talent. Arraez’s addition adds even more depth to their lineup.

Despite Arraez’s departure, the Marlins continue to struggle and were on pace for a dismal 44-118 record entering Friday. Fans will have to wait and see how the trade impacts both teams as the season progresses.
