Veteran South African actress Connie Chiume, known for her roles in Marvel’s Black Panther and various South African TV shows, has passed away at the age of 72. Chiume’s family announced her death, stating that she died at a Johannesburg hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
Chiume, a trained teacher turned actress, was a beloved figure in the South African entertainment industry. She starred in popular TV shows such as Rhythm City, Zone 14, and Gomora, and gained international recognition for her role as Zawavari in Black Panther.
In addition to her acting career, Chiume also appeared in Beyoncé’s The Lion King and received several awards for her performances, including an NTVA Avanti Award and a SAFTA.
