Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un exchanged lavish gifts during Putin’s first visit to North Korea in almost a quarter of a century. The two leaders shared smiles and hugs, with a tea party and gala concert to follow.
Putin, known for his love of luxury cars, gifted Kim a Russian-made Aurus limousine, adding to Kim’s collection of luxury foreign vehicles. The Russian leader also gave Kim a tea set and an admiral’s dirk, while receiving artwork related to his image as presents.
The show of unity between the two leaders comes at a time when both countries face international isolation. Despite sanctions, ties between Russia and North Korea have strengthened, with North Korea reportedly supplying Russia with artillery and missiles for the war in Ukraine.
During their talks, Putin thanked Kim for his support in Russian policy, while Kim hailed Russia as North Korea’s “most honest friend.” The two nations signed a deal to help each other in case of aggression, further solidifying their relationship.
