Strictly Come Dancing contestant Punam Krishan is set to make history on the dance floor this weekend as she and her professional partner, Gorka Márquez, bring the vibrant energy of Bollywood to the ballroom.

The TV doctor, 41, will be dancing to the iconic Bollywood song Bole Chudiyan from the 2001 hit film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, marking the first time in the show’s 20-year history that a competing couple will perform to a traditional Bollywood track.

Krishan, whose parents immigrated from Punjab to Scotland in the 1970s, expressed her excitement about showcasing Bollywood culture on mainstream television. She emphasized the importance of representation and inclusivity, hoping that her performance will inspire and resonate with viewers from diverse backgrounds.

The upcoming episode of Strictly Come Dancing’s movie week will also feature other captivating performances, including JLS member JB Gill dancing the American smooth to Pure Imagination and comedian Chris McCausland jiving to the Wayne’s World Theme.

However, there will be a notable absence on the dance floor as DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles had to withdraw from the competition due to an injury sustained during rehearsals. As anticipation builds for this groundbreaking Bollywood performance on Strictly Come Dancing, fans and viewers can look forward to a night filled with dazzling choreography and unforgettable moments on the dance floor.
