Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki has reportedly apologized to Gold Star families for denying President Biden checked his watch during a ceremony honoring fallen service members. Psaki agreed to a closed-door interview with the House Foreign Affairs Committee to address the chaotic 2021 Afghanistan evacuation, during which she allegedly made multiple untrue statements.
During the interview, Psaki was asked if she had any comments for the Gold Star families offended by her previous statements. According to reports, after being pressed multiple times, Psaki asked the chairman to pass along her apology to the families and express her regret for the pain she caused them.
GOP Florida Rep. Mike Waltz confirmed the exchange, praising Psaki for doing the right thing. He stated, “This isn’t a partisan or gotcha moment. This is the right thing to do as fellow Americans and I pray she follows through.”
The incident in question involved a video and image of President Biden checking his watch multiple times during a dignified transfer ceremony for the 13 U.S. service members killed in a terrorist attack during the Afghanistan withdrawal. Psaki’s book initially claimed Biden looked at his watch only after the ceremony had ended, but Gold Star families have long maintained that he checked his watch multiple times during the ceremony.
Psaki later edited and removed the misleading line from future reprints and digital copies of her book. Fox News Digital reached out to the Foreign Affairs Committee and Psaki for confirmation but has not received a response.
Overall, the apology from Psaki to the Gold Star families marks a significant development in the ongoing controversy surrounding President Biden’s watch-checking incident.
