Rescue Dog Turned Agility Star to Compete at Westminster Dog Show
In a heartwarming turn of events, a rescue dog named Miles has gone from being virtually unadoptable to a rising star in the world of agility competitions. Miles, who was once known as Tank, was adopted by Christine Longnecker, a horseback riding instructor in Erie County, Pa., six years ago.
During a horseback riding class, Miles surprised everyone by sprinting into the ring and effortlessly bounding over fences, showing a natural talent for agility. This marked the beginning of Miles’s agility career, which has now led him to compete at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in Flushing, Queens.
Miles, an All-American dog with a mix of breeds in his DNA, has defied the odds and is now working towards his third Master Agility Championship. Despite facing tough competition from purebred dogs bred for speed, Miles has consistently proven himself as a top contender in agility competitions.
Christine Longnecker, Miles’s devoted owner, describes their partnership as a special bond built on love and trust. She emphasizes that the key to their success is ensuring that Miles is happy and having fun while competing.
Aside from his agility pursuits, Miles also plays a unique role in Christine’s horseback riding lessons. He takes it upon himself to ensure the horses are jumping correctly, barking in disapproval when they make mistakes and even demonstrating the correct way to jump.
Miles’s journey from a troubled rescue dog to a successful agility competitor is a testament to the power of love and belief in overcoming obstacles. As he gears up to compete at Westminster, Miles serves as an inspiration to dog lovers everywhere, proving that any dog, regardless of breed or background, can achieve greatness with the right support and encouragement.
