University of Oregon football player charged with felony hit-and-run in fatal incident

A University of Oregon football player, Daylen Amir Austin, has been charged with felony hit-and-run in a fatal incident that occurred earlier in the week, Eugene police announced on Wednesday. The crash, which took place on Monday, resulted in the death of a 46-year-old man.

Austin, a defensive back for the Ducks, was arrested in connection with the incident. According to police, the investigation is ongoing and more information will be submitted to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for a final charging decision.

Eyewitnesses recalled hearing the crash, with one Eugene resident describing the sound of a vehicle speeding in circles before a loud thump. The community was left shocked and saddened by the tragic event.

The University of Oregon confirmed that they were aware of the incident involving Austin. The football player was arraigned in Lane County Court and is scheduled to appear in court again on May 22.
