**Suspected Long Island Serial Killer Rex Heuermann Charged with Two More Murders**
Rex Heuermann, the suspected Long Island serial killer, returned to a New York courthouse to face charges for the deaths of two more women. Heuermann was indicted on two new murder charges in the deaths of Jessica Taylor in July 2003 and Sandra Costilla in November 1993.
During the investigation, authorities found a chilling document on Heuermann’s computer that they believe was a “planning document” used to methodically blueprint his crimes. The document included sections on things to remember, problems, supplies, prep work, dump sites, and targets.
Heuermann, a 59-year-old New York City architect, was arrested last year in connection with three cold case murders. Prosecutors later secured an indictment for a fourth victim. He appeared in court on Thursday and is due back on July 30.
The Gilgo Beach murders, which went unsolved for over a decade, have now led to a broader investigation. A task force of state and local investigators pieced together evidence that pointed to Heuermann as the suspect. Evidence included an eyewitness description of his green Chevy Avalanche, records from burner phones, crime scene DNA, and a discarded pizza crust.
The bodies of Taylor and Costilla were found in Manorville and Southampton, respectively. Taylor’s remains were discovered decapitated and mutilated, while Costilla’s remains were found in a wooded area.
Heuermann’s attorney, Michael J. Brown, accompanied him to court where prosecutors revealed new DNA evidence and the planning document found on his computer. The families of the victims are seeking justice, with attorney John Ray mentioning that Heuermann’s notes referenced Stockholm syndrome, suggesting he may have held his victims captive.
The investigation into the Gilgo Beach murders continues, with additional remains of victims being uncovered. Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is set to face trial for the heinous crimes he is accused of committing.
