Fairfax County Police Department announced on Monday that a suspect has been taken into custody for the “brutal and horrifying” rapes of two women in northern Virginia. Kevin Lopez-Altan, 24, of Annandale, was arrested in connection to an abduction and sexual assault that occurred in an Annandale business.
According to police, Lopez-Altan is accused of sexually assaulting a 59-year-old woman at her own business in Annandale and a 20-year-old woman on the campus of Northern Virginia Community College. The incidents took place on separate occasions, with the victims bravely fighting off the attacker in both cases.
The arrest came after an extensive investigation by detectives, who were able to gather a significant amount of evidence linking Lopez-Altan to the crimes. It was also revealed that the suspect has a criminal history and was known to law enforcement prior to these incidents.
During a press conference, Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis expressed his shock at the nature of the crimes, calling Lopez-Altan “evil personified” and emphasizing the importance of bringing him to justice to prevent further attacks. Lopez-Altan has been charged with multiple felony counts, including rape, forcible sodomy, and abduction.
Chief Davis urged anyone with information about Lopez-Altan or potential additional victims to come forward and contact the Fairfax County police. He emphasized the need to ensure the safety of the community and prevent further harm from individuals like Lopez-Altan.
The swift action taken by law enforcement in apprehending Lopez-Altan has been praised as a crucial step in protecting the public from a dangerous predator. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to ensure that justice is served for the victims of these horrific crimes.
