Senator Patty Murray, known for her iconic campaign slogan “just a mom in tennis shoes,” recently achieved a significant victory in securing additional funding for child care and early education programs in the $1.2 trillion spending law passed by Congress last week.
Despite facing political challenges and strict spending limits, Ms. Murray, along with Representative Rosa DeLauro, successfully advocated for a 9 percent increase in spending for child care subsidies for low-income families and a $275 million increase in funding for Head Start programs.

Over the years, funding for child care and Head Start has increased significantly under her leadership, with a 250 percent increase since 2015.
