The New York Mets kicked off their baseball season with a bang as hundreds of fans flooded into the new team store at Citi Field in Queens on Friday morning. The store, located in the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, welcomed eager fans who were excited to be the first ones to explore the new space.
Susan Wiedeman, a loyal Mets fan from Riverdale, N.J., who has been attending opening day games for the past 40 years, was thrilled to be among the first to enter the store. “We were just about the first ones in,” she said. “That was really cool.”
The new 10,000 square foot store is twice the size of its previous version and is filled with new technology, art, and merchandise. With higher ceilings and a hanging sculpture by Brooklyn artist Michael Murphy, fans were in awe of the new space.
One of the highlights of the store is the vast inventory it offers. Janet Conlon, a dedicated fan from Hillsborough, N.J., who already has a closet full of Mets apparel, was impressed by the variety of options available. “I’ve never seen a lot of this stuff before,” she said. “It’s amazing.”
The Mets organization has also stepped up its game in catering to female fans, offering a range of new and exclusive items. From vintage sportswear to personalized jerseys, the store has something for everyone.
The introduction of an RFID self-checkout system added a modern touch to the shopping experience, although some fans needed assistance navigating the new technology.
As the Mets gear up for a long season ahead, fans are excited to continue shopping at the new store and show their support for their favorite team. With 79 more games to go, the store is sure to be a popular destination for Mets fans throughout the season.
