Baltic States, Norway, Finland, and Poland to Construct “Drone Wall” Along Borders with Russia

In a move to bolster their defenses against potential threats, the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, along with Norway, Finland, and Poland, have announced plans to construct a “drone wall” along their shared borders with Russia. The announcement was made on Sunday, with Estonian Interior Minister Lauri Läänemets stating that the technology is capable of both detecting and repelling drones.

Läänemets emphasized the importance of staying ahead in the technological race, especially in light of the use of drones in warfare. He highlighted the need for proactive measures to counter the evolving threats posed by drones, which have proven to be effective reconnaissance and offensive weapons.

The decision to build the “drone wall” comes in response to recent developments in the region, including Russia’s announcement of plans to change its maritime borders in the Baltic Sea. Lithuania’s foreign minister described this move as an “obvious escalation” that must be met with a firm response.

Russian Defense Ministry’s proposal to update the coordinates used to measure territorial waters in the Baltic Sea has raised concerns among neighboring countries. Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen stressed the importance of upholding international conventions and warned that any violation by Russia would result in global condemnation.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov defended Russia’s actions, stating that they were necessary to ensure security in the region. However, the escalating tensions have raised concerns among the international community, with many closely monitoring the situation.

As the Baltic states and their allies move forward with plans to construct the “drone wall,” the focus remains on enhancing security measures and deterring potential threats in the region. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
