Police in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, had an unexpected visitor on Monday morning – an eight-foot-long alligator hanging out in their parking lot. The department shared photos on social media showing officials wrangling the reptile, calling it a “talk about a trespasser!”

Officer Huddleston was the first to spot the massive alligator in the parking lot, leading to a surprising start to the week for the department. With the help of Sgt. Harden, who is licensed to remove alligators, the gator was safely relocated to a nearby pond.

Alligators are common along the coast of North Carolina, but it’s not every day that one shows up at a police station. This incident serves as a reminder to always be aware of your surroundings, as you never know what unexpected guests might appear.

This isn’t the first time North Carolina has had encounters with alligators causing a stir. Just last month, firefighters in Brunswick County had to use a hose to encourage a 12-foot alligator to retreat from a dark road where it was lunging at passing cars.

While the alligator in Sunset Beach may have caused a bit of excitement, it ultimately ended with a safe relocation back to its natural habitat. Remember to stay alert and keep an eye out for any unexpected wildlife encounters in your area.
