The iconic guitar once owned by Oasis’s Noel Gallagher, which featured in the band’s debut single Supersonic, has fetched an impressive sum of over £130,000 at auction. The Epiphone Les Paul standard electric guitar played by Gallagher during the recording of Oasis’s debut album Definitely Maybe was listed by Sotheby’s with an estimate of £60,000 to £80,000, but the final sale price soared to £132,000.
This guitar holds significant historical value as it was used by Gallagher in various live performances and recording sessions leading up to the release of Oasis’s groundbreaking debut album. The recent sale comes amidst the exciting news of the Gallagher brothers reuniting for a 2025 tour, following their split in 2009.
In addition to the Epiphone Les Paul, two more guitars previously owned by Gallagher were also auctioned off for high prices. His Epiphone EA-250 electric guitar sold for £48,000, well above its estimated value, while a 1980 Gibson Flying V Guitar, used in the recording of Oasis’s hit track Cigarettes and Alcohol, sold for £36,000.
Katherine Schofield, Head of popular culture at Sotheby’s, expressed her excitement over the strong bidding for these culturally significant guitars, stating that it was a fitting tribute to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Definitely Maybe and the long-awaited Oasis reunion. The sale of these guitars serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of Oasis and the impact they have had on the music industry.
