Nicole Scherzinger to Make Broadway Debut in Revival of “Sunset Boulevard”
Nicole Scherzinger, best known for her work as a musician, actress, and television talent show judge, is set to make her Broadway debut in Jamie Lloyd’s radically reimagined revival of “Sunset Boulevard” this fall. The production, which received rave reviews during its run in London earlier this year, will open at the St. James Theater on October 20th.
Scherzinger will take on the iconic role of Norma Desmond, a faded film star from the silent era who becomes entangled with a young screenwriter in a bid to revive her career. The musical, based on the 1950 film by Billy Wilder, features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton.
Director Jamie Lloyd, known for his stark and psychological productions of classic works, has stripped down this version of “Sunset Boulevard” to focus on the emotional and psychological journey of the characters. Scherzinger’s performance in the London production was hailed as “career-defining” by critics, and she is eager to bring the role to Broadway audiences.
“I guess I’ve been waiting for this my whole life,” Scherzinger said in an interview. “I can’t believe that it’s finally about to happen.” The singer, who studied theater in high school and college, is excited to explore the role further and make even stronger choices on stage.
Joining Scherzinger on Broadway will be her Olivier-nominated co-stars Tom Francis, Grace Hodgett-Young, and David Thaxton. The production is set to begin previews on September 28th, promising a thrilling and emotionally charged experience for theatergoers in New York City.
